My story at LEONI

My name is Mirsad, I am 18 years old, and I completed my training at LEONI as a machine and plant operator with the IHK additional qualification in wire and cable technology from September 2021 to July 2023. I became aware of LEONI through school fairs and information events. After a trial internship, I decided to apply for the apprenticeship. During the apprenticeship at LEONI, you start with the orientation weeks. As a technical apprentice, you spend the first four months in the training workshop. After this phase, you get to know the various machines in the learning island. After a week in the learning island, you are transferred to production. Until the final exam, you switch to different areas every two weeks and work with various machines, gaining a broad spectrum of experiences.

This is my job

As a machine and equipment operator, my tasks include reading orders, setting up the extrusion line and entering the production parameters. Thereafter I start the line, taking and checking a cable. If the result is positive, I pass the order on, otherwise I will make the required adjustments. During production I monitor the line, complete the order, and sign it out of the system.

What excites me about my job is that the work is not only enjoyable but also characterized by pleasant interaction with colleagues.

My daily routine

Start of the day

The starting time of my working days varies depending on the assigned shift. An early shift begins 15 minutes before 6 a.m., the late shift 15 minutes before 2 p.m., and the night shift 15 minutes before 10 p.m.

Morning

The work process always starts with the shift handover during which the previous shift supervisor explains to me in detail how operational processes flowed. Thereafter I run a check of the line before my work as a machine and equipment operator can proceed.

Lunch break

Given my shift work, there are no set break times. I can spend my breaks times flexibly during ongoing operation, either at the line itself or in the nearby break room. I enjoy the company of my colleagues when there.

Afternoon

I continue my work after the lunch break. The next shift handover by the subsequent colleague then takes place just before finishing time.

My highlight

For me personally, the "Apprenticeships Evening" event at LEONI was among the most fascinating and impressive moments. The event provides the opportunity to gain multifaceted insights into different apprenticeship streams. The variety of apprenticeship areas presented enables you to explore the wide range of career prospects within the LEONI company. This experience is not only instructive but also inspiring because it allowed me to deepen my understanding of the various apprenticeship paths and to better reflect on my own professional direction.

My view of LEONI as an employer

I find the work culture as well as the general atmosphere at LEONI to be exceptionally positive and to be on an impressively high level. The atmosphere at work is characterized by a motivating setting in which team members communicate openly and support each other. This contributes considerably to my finding the working conditions to be very pleasant and supportive for personal development.

Briefly and succinctly, I would describe LEONI as friendly, educational and team oriented.
