My story at LEONI

My name is Ahmed, I am 27 years old, and I have been with LEONI since September 2019. I started my apprenticeship to qualify as an industrial business manager at LEONI in 2019. During my apprenticeship, I was able to work in a variety of departments, such as Sales, Controlling, Procurement, Prototype Construction, Quality Management, Financial Accounting and Accounting. Because I changed departments regularly it was never boring, I was able to get to know many new colleagues and so build up a good network within the company. During my apprenticeship, I also worked as CEO in the junior company, the New Talents Company. The junior company is an independent project of LEONI’s apprentices and dual-study students. All told, I liked the work in the Human Resources department best, and so it was an easy decision to choose HR as to department to work in after my apprenticeship. To my great fortune, a vacancy arose at the time, and so I have been able to work in the HR Learning and Development department on a full-time basis since February 2022.

This is my job

My principal tasks as a specialist in HR Learning and Organizational Development involve coordinating and organizing interviews in HR development and applicant management. In regular meetings with colleagues, we discuss the upcoming training sessions and current tasks. I furthermore take care of registrations for seminars outside our company and prepare participant lists for upcoming training sessions, which are sent to the instructor.

My daily routine

Morning

My normal working day at LEONI starts conventionally with emails. I filter them to see which emails relate to HR development and applicant management because my role covers both these areas. Once everything has been categorized, I start by coordinating and organizing our interviews. Thereafter I often have a fixed day, for example with my colleagues from HR Development. Here we discuss upcoming training and provide each other with an overview of our current tasks. Shortly before the lunch break, I reply to emails that have landed in our shared HR Development inbox. They are mostly general questions from employees, for example about our Learning Management System (LMS), about registrations for external seminars or general training issues.

Afternoon

After the lunch break, I take care of the external seminar registrations in LMS. Then the end of the working day is not far. Yet before that, I draw up the list of participants for upcoming seminars and send it to the responsible instructors.

My highlight

My most exciting moment at LEONI to date probably speaks volumes about my career orientation: it was when I was able to attend an interview in person for the first time and was able to ask the applicant some questions. I thought it was great to have the opportunity for the first time to get a taste of what the application process was like from the other side. I even felt briefly that I was back at my own interview.

My view of LEONI as an employer

Several factors played a role in my choice of LEONI as an employer. The company's outstanding reputation in my region and its position as one of the largest employers were crucial aspects. Moreover, the automotive industry has always fascinated me, and especially so the role of component supplier. Not least, a personal touch also contributed to my decision: some of my friends were already working at LEONI and without exception shared positive experiences.

With respect to the work culture at LEONI, and especially so in my team, I perceive the atmosphere to be very pleasant. Collaboration is harmonious, we understand each other well and we share our thoughts not only about work issues but private matters, too. Trust and confidence are core values here at LEONI, which manifest themselves in strong team solidarity. From the apprentice through to the manager, we are all committed and achieve our goals together.

For me, LEONI as an employer is professional, varied, and progressive

What advice would you give to someone starting at LEONI?

Always ask questions if anything is unclear or if you tackle a new task for the first time. In my experience, all colleagues are very open, understanding, and happy to support you. You may pass on your fresh knowledge to someone else very soon – ultimately, we achieve all goals better and faster together.
