My story at LEONI

I'm Martin, 22 years old, and after completing my qualifying secondary school education, I began an apprenticeship as a machine and system operator at LEONI in Roth. After successfully completing two years of training, I worked for a year in the cable testing laboratory at LEONI in Roth, where I conducted quality controls on cables and provided ongoing support to my team.

In 2020, I left the company to pursue further education as a state-certified technician in mechanical engineering. Immediately afterward, I began studying mechanical engineering. Since September 2023, I have been back at LEONI, this time as a dual student. By having my previous academic achievements recognized, I was able to shorten the originally planned study duration from 3.5 to 2.5 years, thereby not losing any time.

This is my job

During my practical phases, I pass through various technical departments of the company and get to know them intensively. I am introduced to current topics and projects in the individual departments and support them in the best possible way with the knowledge I have acquired during my studies. In this way, I gain an insight into the tasks of the engineers and technicians at LEONI, work closely with them and gain an insight into their day-to-day work and their department. My job is therefore very varied and no two days are the same. From creating technical drawings to revising work instructions and conducting plant tours, it really is all there.

My daily routine

Start of the day

I start my working day in the relevant department. In the morning, I use the time to plan and structure my day. So I go through my emails, read up on current topics and plan meetings.

Vormittag

In the mornings, I accompany employees from the department who present their current projects to me. My aim is to provide them with the best possible support. In this way, I not only gain a deep understanding of the department, but also get to know how the employees work together.

Lunch break

I like to spend my lunch break with my fellow students or with colleagues from my respective department.

Afternoon

In the afternoons, I take part in team project meetings, where I actively contribute my knowledge in order to support the topics in the best possible way based on the knowledge I have acquired during my studies.

My highlights

I was particularly pleased with the warm welcome I received from the employees after my three-year absence from the plant, as I was remembered positively. I am also fascinated by the progress and implementation of the projects, as they often involve months of planning and a considerable amount of work.

My view of LEONI as an employer

I currently work in the department of my former trainer, which contributes to an outstanding team atmosphere. The integration into the team went smoothly and all employees are extremely motivated to explain and familiarize me with unfamiliar topics. The work culture is characterized by clear structures and I find my way around the day-to-day business effortlessly. I am surrounded by competent colleagues who are always happy to help me with any questions I have, so I receive the best possible support. Cooperation with neighboring departments is also harmonious, which contributes to an overall positive working atmosphere. These experiences shape my positive view of LEONI as an employer.

I would characterize LEONI with the words diversity, structure and variety.
