My story at LEONI

I am LEONIe. I’m 18 years old and successfully completed my final exams at the state commercial college in Greding, a town south of Nuremberg and Roth. I started my apprenticeship to qualify as industrial business manager at LEONI in Roth in September 2022.

This is my job

During my three-year apprenticeship, I go through various commercial departments to familiarize myself with numerous areas of responsibility. So far, I have gained experience in technical purchasing, finance and accounting as well as logistics. Currently, I am working in the department of Personnel Development - Apprenticeship & Dual Studies, actively participating in the planning and execution of career orientation events.

In the Supply Chain Management department - Procurement Team, I maintained order confirmations, initiated orders, and updated the bottleneck list and price lists. In finance and accounting, I pre-entered invoices, scanned them, and initiated reminders and payment runs. In payroll, I entered workflows, recorded entries and exits in SAP, and sent time records. In logistics - goods receipt, I scanned and entered delivery notes in SAP and dispatched packages. In logistics - dispatch, I prepared labels for coils, filed loading lists, entered weight statistics, and verified invoices.

My daily routine

Start of the day

Right now, my working day starts at 7 a.m., although the exact time can vary by department.   After having set myself up at my workstation, I can take the time to check my emails and team news.

Morning

Afterwards, I am currently supporting the Apprenticeship & Dual Studies team in planning the orientation weeks, sending out schedules and emails, creating personnel files, and preparing various lists and presentations. Additionally, I assisted the team in the hiring process of our New Talents.

Lunch break

At lunch time, around 12 noon, I meet with the other commercial apprentices in the kitchenette to spend our lunch break together.

Afternoon

After a relaxing lunch break, I return to my work with fresh vigor. I continue my tasks and work on pending projects, be it planning events, coordinating meetings, or creating documents. The period after lunch is often a productive one during which I successfully complete tasks.

Evening

My working day ends at around 3 p.m. and I then set off to enjoy the evening. The exact time at which I leave will of course depend on when I started in the morning, thanks to flextime.

My highlight

For me, the opportunity to organize and run the introductory week and seminars at LEONI was very exciting. It was fascinating to get an insight into the planning and running of such events, for a change to see them from the perspective of the organizer and not just that of the participant.

My view of LEONI as an employer

Various reasons influenced my decision to start my career training at LEONI. LEONI’s size as a company was a significant aspect for me because I was keen to start my career training in a larger group of apprentices. The prospect of a multifaceted apprenticeship program and the opportunity to complete an internship abroad also impressed me. I found passing through the different departments during my apprenticeship to be very enriching. So far, I have felt very comfortable in every department. The warm welcome and inclusion as a matter of course in the daily work routine as well as in projects contributed a lot to this feeling. Thanks to a constant stream of tasks, I always have plenty to do, and my working day is therefore highly varied.

These aspects defined and underscored my positive perception of LEONI as an employer. Briefly and succinctly, LEONI is for me friendly, modern, and forward-looking.

My tips for future colleagues

Don’t worry, you don’t need to over-think it! You will be warmly welcomed.  At the beginning, I also had concerns that I would make mistakes, but that is entirely normal – after all, apprentices are here to learn.
