My story at LEONI

I am Thomas. I’m 17 years old and started my apprenticeship to qualify as an electronics engineer for operating technology at LEONI in Roth in September 2022. My deep interest in electronics motived me to embark on this apprenticeship. After an internship at LEONI, which gave me profound insight into the company and this career, I decided to apply for this apprenticeship position – with success.

This is my job

I am currently in the second year of my apprenticeship and am working in the electrical workshop where I support skilled colleagues in resolving maintenance-related fault messages as well as in wiring control cabinets in the control cabinet production section.

What fascinates me most is the fact that many devices and machines would not function properly without our specialist knowledge as electronics engineers. In addition, I enjoy continually acquiring fresh knowledge and contributing to getting machinery back into operation.

My daily routine

Start of the day

My day starts at 7 a.m. at the Technical Training Center when I greet my colleagues and go through my emails to be informed regarding the latest developments and instructions.

Morning

Thereafter I dedicate myself to my pending work, which may involve sorting operating material, resolving fault messages on the machines, or also repairing equipment together with my skilled colleague. These activities require precision and teamwork because smooth functioning of the equipment is of crucial importance.

Lunch break

Just before 12 noon it is time for my lunch break. Our canteen offers delicious food, which I like to enjoy together with my colleagues or other apprentices.

Afternoon

In the afternoon, I return to grappling with my pending assignments. These may be to continue repairs, check equipment or other operational tasks.

Evening

I end my working day at about 3 p.m. by tidying my workplace and ensuring that everything is left behind in good order and safe. Then I look forward to the evening to re-energize for another successful working day at LEONI.

My highlight

The view from the polyvinyl chloride tower was doubtless my most beautiful moment at LEONI. This impressive, 26-meter-high tower, which stores the raw material for cable jackets, gave us the unique opportunity to see the entire company site, the industrial area, and the surrounding environment from above.

My view of LEONI as an employer

I experienced a significant milestone during my time at LEONI when I successfully completed the basic training course on metals. This practice-oriented course had a key influence on my view of LEONI as an employer. During this course, we acquired such basic skills as precise filing, drilling, thread cutting and chiseling. At the end, each of us made – depending on individual capabilities – a small but impressively heavy model truck out of steel.

I find the work culture at LEONI to be relaxed while always respectful and upbeat throughout. Taking an overall view, LEONI can briefly and succinctly be described as fair, generous, and exciting. This reflects my favorable view of LEONI as an employer.
